Abortion is not a new problem. In China, folklore dates the use of mercury to induce abortions to about 5,000 years ago. It was recorded in 1550 B.C. in Egypt and in ancient China about 500 B.C. as well. Victims aside, women today as in antiquity, are faced with a difficult choice between promiscuous behavior and following religious directives. Should they allow their male partners to enjoy them without a long-term commitment or refuse until marriage? Should men benefit from easy access to abortion as a fallback position in case of an unwanted pregnancy? Our society has developed into a culture of sexual promiscuity, promoted by a revolution in birth control and abortion. Promiscuity is delightfully entertaining recreation, but comes with serious consequences. G.K. Chesterton said,”Men invent new ideals because they dare not attempt old ideals. They look forward with enthusiasm, because they are afraid to look back.” The idea of free love with a promise of protection appeals, but time-honored chastity provides real protection.
