One Of Those Days!
“Oh no! Late again!” I shrieked as I leaped from my bed
with thoughts of my hectic day racing through my head.
I dressed in a hurry and into the kitchen I ran.
I reached up in the cupboard and grabbed the coffee can.
It slipped from my fingers and fell onto the floor.
The lid came off and coffee spread from the sink to the door.
I grimaced in frustration and bent to scoop it up,
Then threw grounds in the pot, enough for just one cup.
With travel mug in hand I raced out to the car,
My first errand I had to run thankfully wasn’t far.
With shaking hands, frazzled nerves and a pounding heart
I turned the key and gave it gas, but it just wouldn’t start.
You flooded it, you fool! I heard my cruel brain cry.
But the car finally started “¦ on my eleventh try.
I made it to the first place, then the second and the third.
But after leaving that store, I was shocked beyond words.
A bright white parking ticket filled my heart with dread.
I had been in such a hurry I hadn’t seen the curb was red.
I threw my head far back and nearly howled in rage.
I would have screamed and stomped my feet but had to act my age.
From there I had to hustle to make it to my job,
hoping that just this once my boss wouldn’t act the snob.
But no such luck, he sneered at me as he piled me with work.
And he hated my proposal. He could be such a jerk!
Later as I headed home, in the pouring icy rain,
My poor head throbbed all over, racked with brutal pain.
I got into the house and collapsed into a chair.
“God,” I prayed, “all day I needed you. Why weren’t you there?
Instead of being successful, my day was a total flop!
Why didn’t you help me, make the bad things stop?
Why, oh why, God, didn’t you help with a single task?”
He whispered to me softly, “Because, child, you didn’t ask!
You were far too busy fretting about your hectic day
to take the time to ask me, or to simply stop and pray!
I don’t like it either when your life’s a mess!
I love you, my child, and wish for only your success!”
I realized He was right, and with a twinge of guilt and shame
I knew that days without prayer would always be the same.
“Forgive me, Lord,” I prayed, “Your words are oh so true!
Never again will I start my day without a prayer to you!”
So if you ever have one of those days from yes, you-know-where,
Stop and ask God for His help, because He is always there.
If you want great success at nearly any task
God will always help you. All you have to do is ask.
